Save, back up, and export recipes

Understand local recipe storage, JSON restore, CSV and PDF output, print previews, and recovery from storage or import errors.

Saved recipes live in this browser on this device. BatchLadle does not create an account or synchronize your recipes between devices. Keep a downloadable backup of any recipe you cannot afford to lose.

Save a local recipe

Valid recipe edits are written to a working draft when browser storage is available. Save recipe adds or updates the recipe in My recipes; it is separate from the draft. Reopen the saved entry to check the version you intend to keep.

If storage is unavailable or full, read the error and download JSON before closing the page. If the saved draft cannot be read, download its recovery text before choosing Replace the saved draft. Do not replace the original merely to remove the warning.

Use JSON for restoration

JSON preserves structured recipe data for import into a compatible BatchLadle version. Keep the file somewhere you control. CSV and printed sheets are reading formats, not substitutes for this backup.

Import a recipe JSON from My recipes. If its ID already exists, choose Replace the saved recipe or Keep both recipes. Invalid JSON, a damaged structure, or an unsupported version reports an error without replacing saved recipes. Keep the original file for recovery.

If the saved collection is unreadable, use Download recovery text before considering Clear damaged recipe storage. Clearing that collection requires confirmation and cannot be undone through the recovery control.

Choose a readable export

Use Print & export for CSV, PDF, or a paper copy. Inspect the preview for quantities, units, notes, and unresolved lines. JSON remains available for the recipe; a shopping list exports as CSV, PDF, or print.

Choose whether checked shopping items belong in the output. Outputs exclude advertising. While PDF preparation is in progress, wait for completion or an error. If a font cannot represent the text or its layout is unsupported, use JSON or CSV to preserve the characters.

Handle deletion carefully

Before deleting a saved recipe, make sure you have the version you want to keep. Use the available undo action immediately if deletion was accidental. A downloaded JSON backup is the reliable route for restoring a copy after that opportunity has passed.

Clearing browser site data, switching browser profiles, or using a private browsing session can affect what is retained. A local save is not a promise of permanent storage.

Check files before sharing

Exported files can contain recipe titles, notes, and ingredient details. Review them before sending them to someone else. Sharing a file is your action; BatchLadle does not create a public recipe link or upload the recipe as part of a local export.
